From the 8th century to the 19th century, poets from India, Iraq, Egypt, Morocco and other countries from the WANASA region and Al-Andalus wrote homoerotic and homoromantic poetry in addition to heteroerotic and heteroromantic poetry.
The poets were men and women, they came from different social classes, and wrote in a variety of languages, including Arabic, Hebrew, Kurdish and Persian.
